Life and What Ifs

Do you believe in the dictum that we must all enjoy life, because there is plenty of time to be dead?
Well, I do.
I love to take chances, to take risks.  Yes, I trust my intelligence enough and I take comfort in my calculated analysis, then I go for it!  I am completely uncomfortable when someone comes up to me and tells me, "but, but, what if ... yada yada..".  Come on, live a little.
I reckon good judgement does not grow overnight.  Good judgement is acquired from a lot of bad experiences.  A lot of the bad experiences are outcomes of bad judgement.  But you have to start somewhere.  However, I see and meet a lot of people are who too fearful of failures, rejection and mistakes.  Did it ever occur to you that you can live in a bubble, completely sanitized from germs and viruses, totally devoid of human interaction, all by yourself yet you still can make a mistake?  What are the odds? They carefully analyse things. evaluating whether they should cross the line.  Life passes them by whilst they are still staring at the line they haven't crossed.
Well, if you can delude yourself into believing you are in control of the universe, go right ahead.  I will still wish that you get the experience you need to learn from it; experience is the most honest teacher I have met.   We would learn more from this lifetime if we will stop denying all the mistakes we have done.
I have learned that when it comes to living and loving, I need to take chances and I choose not to regret anything that didn't kill me.  I would not want to go back in time and fix everything that I reckon needs fixing, otherwise, I will probably be only half of what I am today.  I just believe that if we become too afraid to take chances, aren't we missing out on the best things that are yet to be?  To begin with, there are no guarantees for tomorrow.  Everything is a risk.  And it is my birthright to make mistakes.  Imperfections are all part of me.  It's part of my package.  I have not been lucky enough to meet another living creature who is perfect.  I would hate myself to love with caution, that when I die I would feel so sorry that I have loved so little.
Let me tell you this, sometimes you just have to take chances.  Close your eyes and take that leap, it may be worth the fall.  And just because some wise-ass told you that you can't do something, that doesn't mean you'll have to listen.  I get my biggest kicks when people tell me I can't do it, then I do it and show them how. I know for a fact that the best decisions I have made so far in my life, that I never regretted, are decisions I made listening to my heart.  Yes, it is the spontaneity and the candour that makes the ride worthwhile.
I didn't say go rob a bank.  All I really want to say is take chances and stop dwelling on the "What Ifs".  Laugh.  Cry.  Sing.  Dance.  Don't just sit there and breathe.  LIVE!
WHAT IS LIFE?
Life is an Adventure ... Dare it
Life is a Beauty ... Praise it
Life is a Challenge ... Meet it
Life is a Duty ... Perform it
Life is a Love ... Enjoy it
Life is a Tragedy ... Face it
Life is a Struggle ... Fight it
Life is a Promise ... Fulfill it
Life is a Game ... Play it
Life is a Gift ... Accept it
Life is a Journey ... Complete it
Life is a Mystery ... Unfold it
Life is a Goal ... Achieve it
Life is an Opportunity ... Take it
Life is a Puzzle ... Solve it
Life is a Song ... Sing it
Life is a Sorrow ... Overcome it
Life is a Spirit ... Realize it

  1. You are an inspiration. I can't help but think I was meant to stumble across your blog and read this post today. Has that ever happened to you? Some random message falls into your lap that accurately applies to current life situation and leaves you going.... Hmmmm!

    Love the poem too!

  2. Totally agree with all of this.

And if someone tells me I can't do something that just makes it a challenge, and I can never resist one of them.

  4. :)
Totally my motto in life: 'Go for it!'. If it works out, then brilliant. If if doesn't, then that's good too, because I learn something from it.

You hit the nail bang on the head again. Life is for Living! :)

  5. Hmmm. Come to think of it, that fits in quite nicely with the philosophical ideas in 'The Alchemist' too...

  8. I was writing this post to myself. Somehow the rains have dampened my spirits even if I love the rain and I badly needed to kick my ass! But I am happy to know this helped remind us all what it feels to be on top of the game, regardless of outcomes, yeah?
    Now let's do this.
The next round of tequila shots on me!

  10. That is just so true! I also did an almost similiar post the other day, except that I said (more or less) stop saying you can't do something if you haven't even tried. I am tired of listening to people's excuses and reasons and whatnot, if you have not even tried something, you are ignorant, you have no idea whether you can or can't or whether you are or aren't.

Although I won't classify myself as someone who takes risks, I do believe in doing things, trying them out before I proclaim that I can't. So far I haven't found anything that I can't, just perhaps a few things that I am less good at...

  11. Ok that's it! You are a Legend....for me anyway, and that's a first step!
LOVE this post is not enough to express how I felt when reading your lines. I am tired of my Ifs, really tired and here is the time for me to get rid of them and jump in the crowd.
    Be blessed always......

  12. I am a total believer...except that it can be glorious to just sit back and watch the world work so hard at "living", all the while forgetting to be involved in the attempt. The actions don't count without the feelings.

  13. Sis, among some very close competition, I loved this post as the best piece you have ever penned and posted on your blog till now. To say I loved it would be gross underestimation.

"And it is my birthright to make mistakes. Imperfections are all part of me. It's part of my package."......so very true!

I am always told not to do this & that, I HATE it. Your post was like oxygen to me for I do believe that unless I follow my heart and take on life, I would have not lived life!

  16. I mostly agree. It's weird how much I agree with the part I agree. But I was never on that side of the story. Never needed to explain this to myself, but to others. And strangely enough, the seemingly spontaneous choices I make are carefully considered, yet life has taugh me how to do that fast enough to not miss the opportunity.

There are risks, yes, always. But it's all about being able to postpone dealing with them until they actually happen. If they ever do, that is.

  17. Beautiful post my friend. I think fear has a lot to do with it... it can grab a hold of you and before you even realize it you stop taking those chances and start watching life pass you by. I have found myself in a rut and it's always when I'm worried about failure. Thanks so much for this reminder to stop being afraid and start living!

  18. very inspiring post pbb. Its easy to be down because of unexpected hardships that seem to spring up but at those times its alright to take a small break from being happy and excited to live. I think I realize now that is normal and part of feeling alive too. Slowly we get back our balance and are able to live after we absorb these shocks that come out of nowhere, but when we do yes, it is important to remember all you say. Great post :)

  20. (Bit late to the party, but -) I love that final stanza you ended this post with. That... is gold. Whoever wrote that (was it you? Kudos, truly) is a genius and deserves to be quoted freaking everywhere.

    Great post.
